The last session of the afternoon took place in the digital language lab and it involved pupils completing 4 mini challenges, each one only lasting 10 minutes. The 4 challenges were to 1) Produce a poster aimed at primary school children, explaining why languages are so important. 2) Film a short news item aimed at teenagers explaining the value of languages. 3) Complete a task entitled ‘Lots of languages’ – pick two nouns and then translate them into 15 different languages. 4) Create and record a soundfile of a restaurant situation. Here are some examples of the soundfiles that pupils came up with!

As part of today’s programme the pupils were asked to come up with a list of top tips that they would encourage others to follow when starting to learn a new language. Here are a selection of their ideas:
Enjoy the learning process
Read books and newspapers in that language
Use colours when writing vocabulary to make it more visually appealing
Watch TV and films in the foreign language
Visit the country to speak the language
Listen to music in the language
Try to speak the language daily
Write notes to remind yourself of what you have covered
Keep testing yourself to see what you are capable of doing
Stick words on your fridge to help you remember them
Appreciate how amazing languages are
Never give up, stay dedicated

Welcome to the 8 pupils from Foremarke Hall and Grace Dieu who have joined us for our Gifted and Talented Languages Day here at Repton. Throughout the course of the day you will be adding material to the blog. Soundfiles, Vokis, text and pictures after having experimented in our digital language lab. You are also going to have a session in linguisitics, an introduction into how two Turkish people learnt English in very different ways and a Russian taster lesson. Enjoy!
